New Delhi: From performing pooja in his constituency before casting vote, to complaining about faulty EVMs and demanding a repoll, MP CC president Kamal Nath has been having a field day since morning as Madhya Pradesh votes for its new government today.
The senior congress leader, who had recently sparked off a controversy over his video on ‘Muslim Votes’, on Wednesday seemed to be in no mood to court a storm of criticism for showing his party's election symbol after casting his vote.
“I had already cast my vote. When those from the media asked me whom I have voted for, I showed this (palm). What else could have I done? Shown a lotus?” Nath snapped at an ANI reporter when asked about the incident. Lotus is the election symbol of the BJP.
While posing for photographs after casting his vote in Chhindwara on Wednesday morning, Nath had raised his hand and showed his palm — suggestive of Congress' election symbol.
A week ago, a video purportedly showing Nath asking Muslim leaders to ensure 90 per cent votes for his party from Muslim-dominated areas had gone viral.
In the video, Nath was heard saying that the RSS and the BJP have only one message for the voters — a vote for Narendra Modi means a vote for Hindus — and "agar Musalman ko vote deni hai, to Congress ko vote do (vote for the Congress if you want to vote for Muslims)."
