We Made Mistakes, Will Introspect: Arvind Kejriwal on MCD Election Defeat

New Delhi: After Aam Aadmi Party's drubbing in the MCD Elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday accepted that the party had made mistakes and it is time to introspect.

"Yes we made mistakes, but we will introspect and course correct. Time to go back to the drawing board," Kejriwal said.

"To not evolve would be silly. We owe that to voters and volunteers. We owe to that ourselves. Need is action and not excuses," he added.

Kejriwal's response came after he had a one-on-one session with MLAs.

The BJP retained control of all the three corporations, bagging 181 wards while the AAP could win just 48 wards. The national capital has a total of 272 wards.

Addressing the councillors at his residence, Kejriwal had administered them a pledge of "loyalty". "No anti-defection law governs the corporations. So the BJP will try to lure you away. Always keep your phones on recording mode so that you can expose such attempts later. They may even offer you Rs 10 crore as they have a lot of money," he said.

The AAP chief said betraying the party and the movement, of which it is a product, would be tantamount to "betraying God".

He said volunteers were the backbone of the AAP and should not be "turned away" when they come with requests. "Keep in mind that they come with requests of the people of their respective areas," the AAP chief had said.
