Transgender activist to contest 2016 Assembly poll in Tamil Nadu
Devi, a transgender, pledged to work hard for the development of RK Nagar constituency in Chennai.

A transgender activist is going to contest the 2016 Assembly election from RK Nagar constituency in Tamil Nadu.

Transgender activist Devi will contest the state poll from RK Nagar constituency in Chennai. She has been given MLA Ticket by Naam Tamilar Katchi (Party) Chief Seeman, who is also a film director.

Devi - who works for an old age home - pledged to work hard for the development of the RK Nagar constituency.

It was learnt that another another transgender P Sudha, sought the AIADMK ticket for contesting the Assembly polls. She has been working for the cause of transgenders and associated with several social welfare organisations across the world.

Sources said, she already got the ticket to contest the election on behalf of AIADMK.

On May 16, Tamil Nadu with - 234 assembly seats - will have single phase assembly elections and the results will be announced on May 19.

It is likely that apart from Devi and Sudha, more transgenders are going to contest the state poll.
