New Delhi: Days after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dropped senior leaders from its Parliamentary Board, senior Congress leader Janardhan Dwivedi sparked off a debate.
Dwivedi said on Thursday that there should be a retirement age in politics. He went on to say that in active politics, preference must be given to the youth. His view has been endorsed by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi as well.
"The generational change is also essential in politics. In active politics, youth should be given preference. You can have an age limit of 65 or 70, whatever you feel is right," he said.
Earlier this week, the BJP decided to drop Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi from its Parliamentary Board - the highest decision making board of the party - and created a token organisation for them, the Marg Darshak Mandal.
To give it a semblance of authority, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh were also made a part of it.
