New Delhi: Parliament had reached its nadir, an exasperated Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said Tuesday as opposition MPs repeatedly disrupted Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's speech.
Gandhi's speech during the debate on the trust vote was continually interrupted, finally provoking Chatterjee to say, "The parliament of India has reached the lowest position, its nadir."
While making his speech, Rahul Gandhi linked the nuclear deal with fighting poverty in the country.
Rahul was saying that the nuclear deal is essential to help the poorest of the poor when the uproar began.
Gandhi said, “Energy is needed for nine percent growth rate. Without (adequate energy), growth will stop.”
Gandhi's speech was repeatedly disrupted by the opposition, finally forcing Speaker Somnath Chatterjee to adjourn the Lok Sabha till 2 PM.
