New Delhi: A day after two terror suspects in Bangalore were let off by a court after spending six months in jail, the issue of wrongful arrests on terror charges was raised in Parliament. The Left parties have criticised the police, with Basudeb Acharia referring to the Malegaon blasts arrests.
The Samajwadi Party demanded that suspects be granted bail in 180 days if the police failed to file charges. Minister of State for Home Affairs RPN Singh insisted that the law has to be followed and if there is no proof against a suspect, they will be let off after an enquiry.
The two men let off in Bangalore include journalist Muthi-ur Rehman Siddiqui. They had been in custody since September 2012 after the Bangalore police claimed they were plotting attacks on MPs and MLAs.
The trial court found no evidence against the two. Human rights activists say their release is a victory in their long legal battle.
