Even as the government continues to face opposition ire over Lalit Modi visa row involving Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, the Ministry of External Affairs and the Enforcement Directorate are in a blame game over the passport of the former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner.
Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs have said that they cannot appeal against the Delhi High Court order on Lalit Modi's passport unless asked by the Enforcement Directorate.
They further claimed that the Enforcement Directorate did not get back to the foreign ministry after the High Court verdict, adding that the "entire case is on the basis of ED probe".
According to the sources, the former IPL commissioner was given his passport within a month of the ruling.
This comes amid reports of the government planning to move the Supreme Court demanding revocation of Lalit Modi's passport.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reportedly to discuss the strategy of the government to tackle the Congress-led opposition offensive over Lalit Modi issue.
