Chennai: A war of words between DMK president MK Stalin and BJP Tamil Nadu president Tamilisai Soundrarajan intensified on social media after the DMK leader in public meeting in Trichy district said that the lotus won't bloom here as there is no water in the state.
“There is no water in the state. How will the lotus bloom here," said Stalin in an apparent reference to the Centre giving the go-ahead to Karnataka for a project at Mekedatu, across the river Cauvery.
The DMK has condemned the Narendra Modi government for having given permission for the detailed project report, saying the dam project would pose a great danger to the already diminishing agriculture in the Delta districts in Tamil Nadu. Besides, it would multiply the hardships being faced by womenfolk who had to walk a distance to fetch drinking water.
Soundarajan, however, pointed out the rise of the BJP in the state and the corresponding fall of the DMK.
“Even if it requires artificial rain, lotus has to be made to bloom, by the sweat and blood of the saffron army,” she said in a tweet addressed to her cadre.
The tweet also added: "The onset of monsoon has begun. When it rains, the Sun goes behind the clouds and reservoirs are full and the Lotus blooms...".
Stalin, in another Tweet targeted at the BJP, said, “The Sun, if it wills it, can “burn the Lotus”.
