Srinagar: The People's Democratic Party on Wednesday rejected the formal support offered by Omar Abdullah's National Conference to form government in Jammu and Kashmir. PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said, "People have voted for change. The party finds the Governor's rule better. The Kashmir valley has rejected NC."
Earlier on Tuesday evening the NC wrote to Governor NN Vohra to inform about party offering support to PDP and insisting that it should be consulted before any decision on government formation is taken.
In the letter, Abdullah said that National Conference has offered to support to PDP, which has emerged as the single largest party in the just-concluded Assembly elections, a party release said.
"@JKNC_has written to Governor Vohra Sahib reiterating our offer of support to @jkpdp and asking him to call us before deciding the assembly viability," National Conference's Working President Omar Abdullah had tweeted.
In recently concluded assembly elections, PDP bagged 28 seats to top the chart while BJP emerged as second largest party with 25 seats leaving NC with 15 and Congress only 12.
Omar Abdullah resigned last week as caretaker Chief Minister. PDP and BJP have been in talks but failed to reach any agreement even three weeks after the results came, following which the Governor's Rule was imposed in the state last week. The deadline for forming the government was January 19.
