Ranchi: Jharkhand's all 21 legislators from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday submitted their resignations from the assembly to state unit chief Raghubar Das, as part of the party's demand for early assembly polls.
"All the legislators of the party have submitted their resignations. I am going to New Delhi to present the Jharkhand situation to parliamentary board meeting of the party. We will hand over the resignation letters to assembly speaker after discussing the issue in the meeting," Das told reporters after the meeting of the state legislators.
The BJP has also announced to move the Supreme Court against the central government for not holding elections in the state.
"Home Minister P. Chidambaram had assured parliament to conduct assembly elections after monsoon. Election dates have been announced in three states and there is no sign of holding elections in Jharkhand," said Das, adding Governor K Sankarnarayanan was not dissolving the state assembly to facilitate Election Commission announcing the dates for the elections.
Even the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), which has four legislators, has announced its members will resign after getting clearance from the central leaders.
Meanwhile, the Congress has termed the BJP move as "politically motivated".
"The BJP is playing politics over elections. The elections will be held in the state. It is not prudent to hold elections during festivals like Deepawali, Durga Puja and others," Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was in Ranchi, said.
Jharkhand is under president's rule since Jan 19, and this was extended by parliament till Jan 19, 2010. The term of the present assembly lasts till February 2010.
