Who, in your view, has done something for the greater good of the country?
After the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai, most of India went to the state polls. As the results slowly come in, we ask you this question:
Who, in your view, has done something for the greater good of the country (or your state), and is suitable and responsible enough to be elected to power?
These young people from around the country have different opinion. If you have a suggestion, please do write in to us. Leave your comments in the comments box below.
- Sandhya Singha (name changed to protect identity), 26 Corporate Communications Associate, Bhuvaneshwar I hate politicians. Always have. And after what happened in Mumbai, I have lost all faith in them. But if I had to elect someone, I'd elect someone who is genuine. And you know how "easy" those are to find! (laughs) I support the BJP, so I'd prefer Atal-ji (Atal Bihari Vajpayee) anyday. When he was PM, he brought about a whole lot of improvements. I also think APJ Abdul Kalam is a man of integrity. Apart from that, Orissa is happy with our CM, Navin Patnaik. He has helped international companies come to Orissa. Because of him, Orissa has become a semi-metro; the roads, the cleanliness, all credit goes to him! Earlier people would ask, where is Orissa. Now it's different. He's put Orissa on the map. Everyone wants to invest money in Orissa. Starting from the Tata-s to Korean companies to the Vedantas. So I guess Orissa has the dynamic leader it needs.
- Anupam Das, 27 Advertising professional, Pune I think I would put my vote for Prakash Amte, Baba Amte's son. Why? Well, he is doing lot of things for tribal people. He has also hospital for animals. How could he be good for our nation? We don't need leaders at this stage; we need GOOD people in politics. And look at him. He is already doing so much good for people. So naturally, he will be a good leader as well.
- Arun Dasan, 23 PR associate, Mumbai My list would have Rahul Gandhi and Ratan Tata. In my opinion, all old people from Atal Bihari (Vajpayee) to LK Advani and the other oldies ought to be thrown out. Bring in young people like Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi, who can bring in new thoughts and ideals, or just new blood to Indian politics. These are people who should have the courage to make decisions quickly and on their own. And I think Rahul Gandhi has some of these qualities. PAGE_BREAK
- Dhruv Vijan, 23 Producer, Mumbai Milind Deora has my vote this time! I think he's upgraded a lot of Mumbai's infrastructure. Look at Marine drive now; he has made prominades near the gateway. Town (South Mumbai) looks so beautiful now. He is young and vibrant as well. I think he will be able to connect with the youth in a bigger way.
- Sachin Mohandas, 29 Senior graphics designer, Mumbai Right now, I don't see any such person who is remotely perfect to be get elected. No one has come forward and done anything for the country or state or my location. However, if I had to choose, I would want to elect someone from the corporate world. He should be well educated, fearless and ready to take any steps, if needed, without fear. But I really don't believe in elections now because there is no such person who isn't corrupt. When the youth take over and when I feel that that person has done something worth applauding, and has some guts to face this mean world, then I will vote.
- Harsh Kumar, 18 Student, New Delhi That a toughie! Obviously nobody from the present government. But if I just HAD to, I'd probably pick Rahul Gandhi -- he's young, for one, he's quick on his feet and his promises actually sound real. But if we talk about integrity and ability to do something for the greater good, I can only think of Shah Rukh Khan. He's intelligent as hell, energetically unmatched, self-made, driven, realistic and he's got his morals intact. He's my number one choice.
- Deepti Sawant, 26 Community manager, Mumbai Kumaramangalam Birla. Why? He has good leadership qualities. Think about it, he has singularly made the Birla Group of companies a worldwide venture! He is young and bright. He is exactly the kind of person we need today to lead us.
- Sharvari Joshi, 27 Head of communications for an NGO, Mumbai Kiran Bedi. Why? Because she has set a great example of being an outstanding police officer and a non-corrupt government employee. Plus, she did wonders with prisoners from Tihar jail. She changed their life forever and made them employable. And she is a woman. She get's my ticket anyday!
