Ahmedabad: Former congress MP from Porbandar, Vitthal Radadiya, who had pulled a gun and threatened a tool-booth plaza attendant, will join the BJP in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi at a massive farmers' rally in Rajkot's Dhoraji on Friday.
Radadiya and his son Jayesh, both of whom had won the 2012 Assembly election on a Congress ticket, will now become BJP members along with a large number of their supporters.
He had resigned on January 3 from his Lok Sabha seat and decided to retain his seat in Gujarat Assembly. However, Radadiya resigned from the Congress too and decided to align with Modi.
Dhoraji in Saurashtra is a Congress stronghold and after Radadiya's exit the party is likely find the going tougher. The BJP will gain from Radadiya's entry and find it easy to expand its base in the area, which is dominated by the Leuva Patel community.
He was one of the few Congressmen who managed to win his seat comfortably even as Modi led the BJP to a massive victory.
It may be recalled that the BJP had come out openly and demanded action against Radadiya after he was seen threatening a toll-booth plaza attendant and pointing a gun at him on October 11, 2012 at Karjan in Vadodara.
