New Delhi: Human rights activist Irom Sharmila was re-arrested today and produced before a chief judicial magistrate in Imphal.
Manipur's 'Iron Lady' was released from yet another year of detention on Saturday.
Irom Sharmila had begun her protest against the Malom massacre of 2000 in which 10 civilians were gunned down by security forces.
Sharmila has been on a fast-unto-death for eight years, demanding repeal of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) that grants the Army immunity in the state.
Now, she has become the face of Manipur's revolt against the Act.
Arrested on charges of attempting suicide and being force-fed, she can only be detained for up to a year.
It's maximum term for the offence. So she is freed every year only to be sent back to jail after her repeated refusal to end her fast.
