DMK workers stall Kannada film shooting
Protesting the stand of Karnataka on the Cauvery issue DMK members disrupted the shooting of a Kannada film.

New Delhi: Protesting the stand of Karnataka on the Cauvery issue, a group of DMK members, led by former party whip B M Mubarak, disrupted the shooting of a Kannada film at the famous Botanical Garden in the hill resort town of Udhagamandalam, about 90 kms from Coimbatore.

As a song sequence was being picturised for the film Mathadu Mathadu Mallige featuring Vishnuvardhan and Suhasini on Friday, the protestors raised slogans against Karnataka for its approach towards the Cauvery issue, police said.

Tension prevailed for some time as Mubarak and the other DMK men asked the unit to pack off, saying Tamil film were being targeted in Karnataka in the wake of Cauvery-related protests.

After attempts by Vishnuvardhan, who has also acted in some Tamil films, to convince the crowd and to allow the unit to resume shooting did not bear fruit and the film’s director Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar had to eventually cancel the shoot.

However, the shooting resumed around 1700 hours IST and the song sequence was completed amidst tight security, police said.
