New Delhi: In a bid to resolve the existing water issues with neighbouring Haryana, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will travel to Chandigarh and meet his counterpart Manohar lal Khattar in April.
"I informed Haryana CM Khattarji that I want to come Chandigarh and would like to have lunch with him. So I would visit Chandigarh to meet him in April with my officers," Kejriwal told reporters on Friday while expressing confidence on resolution of issues between the two States.
The two Chief Minister met at the sixth committee meeting of Upper Yamuna Review committee.
Claiming that the quantity from Haryana's Munak Nahar has reduced considerably, he said that the issue was discussed in the meeting.
"The quantity of Haryana's Munak Nahar's water, which comes into Delhi, has reduced a lot since last one month and I, as well as Haryana, put forward our sides in the meeting," the Delhi Chief Minister said.
However, Khattar expressed his displeasure over his state receiving contaminated water from Delhi.
"We raised the issue of getting highly contaminated water through Okhla barrage of Yamuna river, which has resulted in many problems especially in Palwal, Faridabad and Mewad areas," he said.
"Delhi has assured us to put corrective measures and we are very much hopeful about this," Khattar added.
Meanwhile, as per a Government of Haryana press release, Khattar said Haryana would give Delhi its share of water. However, he made it clear that it is not practical to provide water to Delhi by ignoring the interests of farmers and citizens of Haryana.
He said that keeping in view the increasing population of Delhi, more water would be required in future but it is not justifiable to expect only from Haryana to meet the water demand of Delhi, the release said.
All states should contribute to supply of water to Delhi, he added.
