Congress Refutes BJP’s Allegations In Delhi Drug Bust, Says Tushar Goyal Was Expelled Two Years Ago

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday claimed that the arrested ‘kingpin’ in one of the largest drug busts in the national capital is linked to the Congress party. They alleged that the arrested suspect is the chairman of Delhi Youth Congress’ RTI cell. In response, the youth wing of Indian National Congress (INC) strongly denied these allegations, saying that the BJP is misleading the public with “lies and deception.”

Tushar Goyal, the alleged ‘kingpin’, was arrested along with three others on Wednesday after the Delhi police seized over 560 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of marijuana in a raid in the Mahipalpur area of south Delhi.

The estimated value of the drugs is worth to be around Rs 5,620 crore. Police has also said that Goyal, a resident of Vasant Vihar, owned the warehouse where the drugs were found.

BJP alleges ‘kingpin’ has Congress ties 

At a press conference earlier today, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi questioned Congress’ connection to Goyal. He further alleged that Goyal is the head of the Indian Youth Congress RTI Cell and asked whether the Congress party was using money from the illegal trade for the state assembly elections.

“The main accused and kingpin in the drug syndicate, Tushar Goyal is the chief of Indian Youth Congress RTI Cell…What relations does the Congress party have with him (Tushar Goyal)?… Was this money being used in elections by the Congress party?… Does some leaders of the Congress have any arrangements with the drug peddlers?,” Trivedi asked at the press briefing.

He further said, “The Congress, especially the Hooda family, should explain their connection with Tushar Goyal.”

BJP misleading public with ‘lies & deception’

In response to the BJP’s allegations, the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) clarified on social media platform X, that Goyal was removed from the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress RTI department in October 2022 due to “anti-party activities”. They added that after 17 October 2022, Goyal has had no association with the Youth Congress in any capacity.

“In the information released in the media quoting Delhi Police, the said Tushar Goyal himself has admitted that he was never associated with the Youth Congress after 2021-22, which makes it clear that BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi and BJP IT CELL, through a press conference, while hiding the facts, described him as a current office bearer of the Youth Congress, which is clearly a frustrated attempt to tarnish the image of the Indian Youth Congress organization, against which we are bound to take legal action,” the IYC’s statement read.

The Congress youth wing also accused the BJP of hypocrisy, stating, “While showing the so called pictures of the said criminal with our leaders, you people deliberately hid the pictures of Tushar Goyal with BJP leaders which makes it clear that this entire story was fabricated in view of Haryana elections.”
