BS Yeddyurappa's arrest is no setback: BJP
The Lokayukta Court on Saturday has extended the judicial custody of Yeddyurappa till November 3.

New Delhi: Putting up a brave front, BJP on Saturday claimed the arrest of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa in connection with a land scam is not a setback to the party and LK Advani's yatra against corruption.

While refraining from commenting on whether the BJP stood behind Yeddyurappa, party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said it was not his party but the ruling Congress that was facing widespread public ire on the issue of graft.

"Yeddyurappa's arrest is not a setback to Advani's ongoing yatra against corruption," Rudy said on the sidelines of a discussion organised by Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation on India-China relations and border issues.

"If anybody has suffered a setback, it is the Congress as it is the one facing widespread public anger against corruption," he added.

Rudy, however, steered clear of commenting on whether the BJP supported its former Chief Minister in Karnataka. "It is a legal matter. Let the legal proceedings take place," he said.

The Lokayukta Court on Saturday has extended the judicial custody of Yeddyurappa till November 3. He was arrested on October 15 after the state Lokayukta indicted him for alleged irregularities in denotifying government land.
