New Delhi: New Delhi: With all hands on the deck and campaigning to end at 5 pm on Thursday, political parties are electioneering hard in every nook and corner of the national capital ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. While all the contendors are trying hard to woo voters in the nail-biting scenario, war of words between political rivals is also getting bitter and heated.
In an attempt to invoke confidence in the voters, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi promised to bring a government of trust and confidence. "I will give a government of love and compassion, a government in which people can trust," she said.
Terming this as a historic election, Bedi's opponent from the Aam Aadmi Party Arvind Kejriwal exuded confidence of defeating BJP. "This election will be historic. We were saying that BJP will be defeated. From the beginning, they have the mindset that if BJP wins, it will be to Modi's credit, if they lose, it will be attributed to Kiran Bedi," he said.
He also added that the AAP aims to work for the people. "Elections are not fought to learn lessons. We are not doing negative campaign, we talking of development," he said.
The AAP also accused the saffron party of trying to "buy votes" ahead of the polls by distributing money and free liquor. "We have information that BJP is distributing money, liquor and non-vegetarian food to the public and they are also seizing voter identity cards of poor," AAP leader Ashutosh alleged.
Calling the Aam Aadmi party (AAP) a 'brilliant propagandist' BJP leader Arun Jaitley said that Central government's performance will help his party in Delhi. While opinion polls suggest an edge to the AAP, Jaitley merely termed it as a trend. "I always take opinion polls as a trend. All cannot be accurate. We are concentrating on the real polls. We are confident that with the effort put in the last 8 months, we will be able to get a majority in Delhi," he said.
Jaitley also called the fight in Delhi a bi-polar battle between the BJP and AAP, adding that the Congress has disappeared. "The Congress has not learnt fromn the past. Its leadership has no appeal. They are fighting the battle on the same agenda which defeated them in the past," he said.
Hitting out hard at the AAP, BJP President Amit Shah also questioned the party over how it claims of not knowing about details of the donations given to them. "How did you not know about the Rs 2 crore donations given to you? Tomorrow you'll say Dawood gave you the money but you don't know about it. They said they will investigate all donations over Rs 10 lakh, how can they not have inquired about a donation of Rs 50 lakh," he questioned claiming that the AAP is using black money in its poll campaign.
With just two days left before voting, it is now just a matter of time to see which party will be able to come out triumphant in the battle for Delhi.
