Patna: Contest appears to be on the cards during Rajya Sabha elections for six seats in Bihar with an independent candidate claiming support of RJD-LJP and Congress MLAs entering the fray along with four JD(U) leaders and two from the BJP.

State JD(U) president Bashishtha Narayan Singh, its senior leaders Ali Anwar Ansari, Mahendra Prasad and Anil Kumar Sahni, besides BJP general secretaries Dharmendra Pradhan and Ravi Shankar Prasad submitted their nominations to the returning officer-cum-secretary of Bihar legislative assembly Laxmi Kant Jha.

Bihar Chief Minster Nitish Kumar, his deputy SK Modi and a host of their cabinet colleagues and senior party leaders were also present.

Hours after filing of nomination by the six official nominees (JD-U's 4 and BJP's 2), independent candidate Ahmed Ashfa Karim went to the returning officer and submitted his papers.

Later talking to reporters, Karim claimed that he has support of all opposition MLAs, including those from Congress and LJP-RJD combine.

He said he also enjoys support of MLAs from ruling BJP and JD(U) who pledge support for secular forces.
