BANGALORE: The state police housing corporation will adopt an unique Australian technology to construct cost-effective and quality houses to quicken construction pace, Home Minister R Ashok told reporters here on Monday.“We need to provide houses to over 60,000 and odd personnel working in the department, mainly in the lower rungs. As of now, we have only been able to construct 2,000 houses annually,” he added.He, however, did not elaborate on what the Australian technology meant, but only said that it would be costeffective as ready-made parts of the houses are brought and fixed.“There would be no compromise on the quality. Each house will measure about 650 sq ft and would cost Rs 10 lakh. Two houses have been constructed as sample in Shantinagar. Fifty more are coming up on an experimental basis after which we will go in for construction on large scale,” Ashok explained.Ashok said that police and fire personnel working in the lower rungs will be given priority while allotting these houses.Digital Meters for Autos is a MustAshok further said that the government has made it mandatory for all autorickshaws to instal digital meters at the earliest. “The digital meters would cost Rs 2,000 and the government will privode Rs 1,000 for each auto drivers,” he added.
