40. Basna is a state Assembly/Vidhan Sabha constituency in the state of Chhattisgarh and is part of Mahasamund Lok Sabha/Parliamentary constituency. Basna falls in Mahasamund district and Central region of Chhattisgarh. It is categorised as a semi-urban seat.
There are a total of 2,05,450 voters in the seat, which includes 1,02,369 male voters, and 1,03,078 female voters. In the 2018 Chhattisgarh elections, Basna recorded a voter turnout of 85.37%. In 2013 the turnout was 84.08%, and in 2008 it was 79.08%.
In 2013, Rupkumari Choudhary of BJP won the seat by a margin of 6,239 votes (3.92%). Rupkumari Choudhary secured 48.44% of the total votes polled.
INC won this seat in the 2008 Assembly elections with a margin of 15,907 votes (11.45%), registering 37.55% of the total votes polled.
