New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has alleged that "event managers" are being brought inside Patna University to "influence" students union polls, triggering a major flash-point between the saffron party and JD(U)'s student wing.
The statement is being seen as a veiled attack on poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, who is said to have been taking a keen interest in bringing youths to the JD(U) of which he was appointed the national vice-president within weeks of becoming a primary member.
A controversy broke out after ABVP members allegedly thrashed Chhatra JD(U) leader and outgoing Patna University Students' Union (PUSU) president Divyanshu Bhardwaj outside Patna Women's College during campaigning, following which policemen raided the ABVP office on Sunday.
Condemning the raid, BJP MLC Sanjay Paswan and MLAs Sanjeev Chaurasia, Arun Sinha and Nitin Nabin issued a statement, claiming that ABVP candidates and supporters are being "terrorised by the police and the administration".
Bihar's former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav also slammed JD(U) for using the state administration to help its leaders win the university elections. He also attacked CM Nitish Kumar, whose party has an alliance government in the state with BJP.

The Hindustani Awam Morcha of former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, which belongs to the opposition camp, came out with a statement charging Kishor with blatant misuse of the administrative machinery after having declared that he wanted a victory in PUSU polls at all costs.
The JD(U) vice president has yet not reacted to the opposition's charges. However, JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan said that they are concentrating only on students politics and "such small clashes should not be politicised".
PUSU polls are slated for December 5.
