Actress Moushumi Chatterjee Joins BJP Just Months Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls
Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee joined the BJP had contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections on Congress symbol but lost.

New Delhi: Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee joined the BJP on Wednesday in the presence of party leaders Mukul Roy and Kailash Vijayvargiya. Reports suggest the yesteryear artist might contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as well.

Chatterjee was last seen in Amitabh Bachchan starrer Piku in 2015. She has shared screen with lead actors Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra. Apart from Bollywood, she has acted in Bengali cinema in her career.

Born on April 26, 1948, in Kolkata, she contested the 2004 Lok Sabha elections on Congress symbol but lost.

The BJP has been working to win over eminent personalities from different walks of life in the eastern state where it has emerged as a main challenger to the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.

Vijayvargiya expressed hope that Chatterjee's presence will boost the party.

Another actor, Rupa Ganguly, had joined the BJP in 2015. She is now a Rajya Sabha member.

Balika Badhu, Kuchhe Dhaage and Benaam are some of Chatterjee's hit movies. Chatterjee is the daughter-in-law of legendary Bengali music composer and singer Hemanta Mukhopadhyay.
