66 per cent Indians happy with Modi government performance; tally to be better if elections held now

Narendra Modi government completes 100 days in power after receiving a resounding mandate in the Lok Sabha polls. A Network18 - Today's Chanakya poll conducted across 14 cities reveals how Team Modi fared on foreign policy, the challenge of internal security and on the economic front.
Majority 66 per cent voters are satisfied with the performance of the Modi government so far while 19 per cent of the respondents say that they are not satisfied with the performance.
The opinion poll says 51 per cent voters say if elections were held now, Modi government will improve its tally while 26 per cent say the opposite.
On key question of corruption, 54 per cent voters say Modi government can tackle corruption while 24 per cent say it cannot tackle corruption.
Economy sentiment is positive, says the opinion poll. 41 per cent say that the economy is back on track while another 25 per cent say it is early days to pass a judgement.
In response to the question that what the Prime Minister could have done better in 100 days, 48 per cent voters wish Modi government to be stricter on spiralling price.
More than 30 per cent voters believe that price control has improved while 27 per cent say that it has not improved when asked whether price control has improved or deteriorated during the last 100 days.
On what would describe Modi's tenure so far, 41 per cent voters describe his tenure as being effective, speedy, and purposeful. 35 per cent say the government has to be more bold and tough.
68 per cent respondents approve of his style of functioning while only 25 per cent find him authoritative.
The poll shows that the PM Modi has been successful in building a direct rapport with people. 50 per cent respondents say that he effectively communicates with the people of the country.
On a question on internal security, 37 per cent respondents say Naxal violence has decreased during the Modi regime with 15 per cent voters saying the violence had increased.
Voters appear to be in sync with Modi's foreign policy. 69 per cent respondents rate his foreign policy as being either good or very good. 47 per cent say the performance is good while 22 per cent say it is very good.
On Indo-Pak talk cancellation question, the poll shows the Government move reflects the mood of the people as 54 per cent support the decision.
On the issue of communal violence, 43 per cent respondents say communal violence has not increased during Modi regime while 14 per cent say communal violence has increased during Modi government.
While 44 per cent voters say the government has taken the right decision on the Leader of Opposition (LoP), 30 per cent say Congress deserves the post.
Modi's 'Team India' pitch has found favour. 54 per cent voters say Modi is walking the talk on building team India with Chief Ministers' of all states. 15 per cent say the government is not walking the talk on building team India.
METHODOLOGY
The survey was conducted in 14 cities (Jaipur; Bhopal; Delhi; Mumbai; Lucknow; Bangalore; Varanasi; Ahmedabad; Patna; Kolkata; Surat; Hyderabad; Chennai & Thiruvanthapuram) between 26 Aug to 31 Aug 2014. Face to face interviews & Mystery shopping method were used for collection of the data. Stratified sampling technique was primarily used to make homogenous subgroups. With the help of systematic random sampling, all possible sampling error was reduced to obtain a homogenous representative sample. Data were collected to the profile of all adults age 18 + including by age, Sex, Social class, household, work status, literacy level, etc. Proper weights were assigned so that collected data reflects the socio economic conditions of that city. Total respondent sample size was 6280 samples. Checks & counter checks at various levels of sampling were undertaken so as to minimise all possible errors to its best.
