2G scam: Govt-Oppn deadlock over JPC continues
UPA is sticking to its 'no JPC' stand. Cong leaders may meet on Sunday before Parliament reconvenes tomorrow.

New Delhi: The deadlock between the government and opposition continues over the demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum scam.

UPA is sticking to its 'no JPC' stand. Congress leaders are likely to meet on Sunday before Parliament reconvenes on Monday. Congress might take a call on whether to agree to a JPC but on its own terms.

The opposition have stalled the Paliament for 8 days now over the issue. CPI(M)'s Brinda Karat and BJP's Arun Jaitley, speaking at the HT Leadership Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, persisted in their demand for a JPC and defended stalling the Parliament.

"Stopping Parliament is a legitimate way of protesting and we will continue protests for JPC," Jaitley said.

This on a day when PM Manmohan Singh, speaking at the same summit, appealed to the opposition to let the parliament function.

Breaking his silence on the scam, Dr Manmohan Singh also promised action against anybody found guilty.

PM also defended himself in the affidavit filed in SC on Saturday.

The nagging question, however, remains: why didn't Manmohan Singh stand up against the DMK as he did against the Left over the nuke bill?
