Shahid Afridi to Virat Kohli and Now Sreesanth: When Gambhir Had Heated Exchange with Opponents - WATCH
Gautam Gambhir's latest spat with Sreesanth in the LLC 2023 has hogged the limelight. Let's have a look at some of the previous incindents when the former Indian opener had an argument with the opponents on the field.

Former India opener and 2-time World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir has once again hogged the spotlight for a verbal spat on the field. Currently leading the India Capitals in the ongoing Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2023, Gambhir had a heated altercation with former teammate S Sreesanth who was representing the Gujarat Giants. Both former cricketers have a rich history of animated incidents on the field but on Wednesday night, they were up against each other so fiercely that the umpires had to intervene.

Sreesanth seemed disappointed with what unfolded during the game. He went live on Instagram after the game and alleged that Gambhir said ‘rude’ things to him and shouldn’t have told that during a live game.

This wasn’t the first time that Gambhir was involved in a verbal altercation on the field. Be it in international matches or in the IPL, the former cricketer has caught everyone’s attention time and again. As the latest episode involving Sreesanth has brought back the memories of all old arguments, let’s have a look at them.

Gambhir vs Shahid Afridi – 2007

Gambhir and former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi got into a heated exchange during an IND vs PAK ODI in Kanpur in 2007. It all began when the Indian opening batter collided with Afridi while taking a quick single in the 20th over. Both had an intense before on-field umpire Ian Gould’s separated the two cricketers. Afridi and Gambhir were reportedly fined for their spat.

Gambhir vs Kamran Akmal – 2010

It was the 2010 Asia Cup in Dambhula when Gambhir and Kamran Akmal came face to face during an India vs Pakistan game. The men in green appealed for a caught behind to get rid of Gambhir off Saeed Ajmal’s bowling but umpire Billy Bowden didn’t oblige. Meanwhile, Gambhir and Kamran Akmal had a heated conversation and reportedly, a volley of abuses was thrown. Captain MS Dhoni had to intervene to end the fight.

Gambhir vs Virat Kohli – IPL 2013

This incident marked the first chapter of the Gambhir vs Kohli rivalry in the IPL. The former was leading Kolkata Knight Riders while the latter was in charge of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Following Kohli’s dismissal, Gambhir seemed to be saying something which wasn’t welcomed by the RCB skipper. Kohli stopped and turned back to retaliate and eventually, the scenes turned ugly. Their Delhi teammate Rajat Bhatia, who was in KKR then, intervened and separated the duo.

Gambhir vs Virat Kohli – IPL 2016

It was the second instalment of the Gambhir vs Kohli rivalry in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when the latter was at the peak of his form. During a KKR vs RCB game at the Eden Gardens, Gambhir made a throw at the non-striker’s end where Kohli was stationed and there was no chance of running the RCB skipper out. The incident led to an altercation between Gambhir and the officials. As a result, the KKR skipper was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the Code of Conduct.

Gambhir vs Virat Kohli – IPL 2023

The third edition of this rivalry was witnessed earlier this year in Lucknow when an incident of sledging turned ugly. Kohli and Afghanistan bowler Naveen-u-Haq had a verbal exchange during the game which was later escalated after the conclusion of the game. During the customary handshake, Naveen expressed his agony by pushing away Kohli’s hand. Moments later, Gambhir got involved into a heated argument and all three were fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
