One of the key pillars of development of the Narendra Modi government is the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN), aiming to provide support to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by ensuring the saturation of their households and settlements with essential amenities.
The scheme was inaugurated with a total budget of Rs 24,104 crore, focusing on 11 critical interventions through nine line ministries.
An allocation of Rs 15,000 crore has been earmarked to implement the mission over the next three years.
The Ministry of Ayush is set to establish Ayush Wellness Centres as per existing norms, extending Ayush facilities to PVTG habitations through mobile medical units.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will play a pivotal role in facilitating skill and vocational training in PVTG habitations, multi-purpose centres, and hostels, aligning with the specific skills of these communities.
The mission is allocated a budget of Rs. 15,000 crore from the Development Action Plan for the Scheduled Tribes, intended for activities to be implemented over the next three years under this initiative.
India has an ST population of 10.45 crore as per the 2011 census, out of which 75 communities located in 18 States and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been categorised as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). These PVTGs continue to face vulnerability in social, economic and educational fields.
