Animals are known for their ability to provide an unparalleled level of comfort to people around them. They are also known for their special senses which help them predict certain things and understand them better than humans. Now, in a similar story, we introduce you to Oscar the cat. In 2005, when Oscar was just six-month-old, he was adopted by a nursing home in the US to be raised as a therapy cat. However, he was not just an ordinary cat, the workers noticed something peculiar about him. This cat had the ability to predict deaths of the patients residing in the nursery home.

Initially, the doctors did not notice this. Usually, Oscar preferred to be alone. It was very rare for him to crawl into a resident’s bed and snuggle beside them. The bizarre thing is that the resident that Oscar would cuddle with would usually die within hours. Initially, the staff did not think much of it, but after this happened 20 times, they started to believe that Oscar knew when someone was close to passing away.
Dr. David Dosa, a health researcher at Brown University, while speaking to Crossroads Hospice said, “Oscar was initially sort of a very scared cat. He wouldn’t really like to come out. He would keep to himself. Often times you’d find him in the supply closet or under a bed somewhere and it wasn’t really until somebody was near death that Oscar would sort of come out front and center.”
Many researchers speculated that Oscar could smell biochemicals released by dying cells and so chose to comfort lonely residents.
“On one occasion, the staff was convinced that a resident was about to pass away, but Oscar refused to sit with them. Instead, he chose another resident who looked healthier, and that person passed away first,” stated an ‘X’ post.
