David Warner and the Australian team will look to pile further misery on England amid the defending champions’ horror run in the ODI World Cup 2023. Having lifted the coveted trophy back in 2019, England haven’t been at the same level compared to other teams in 2023, having lost four games in a row, winning just one of their six matches so far.
In their next assignment, the holders will be hoping to keep alive their slender hopes of making it into the top four as they face off against fellow top four contenders Australia, who have won four games on the trot.
Warner was hoping to pile on further misery on Jos Buttler and Co. given the rivalry between the two teams, but he did assert that England would be one of the ‘most dangerous’ teams given the fact that they have little to lose coming into the contest.

“It’d be nice to pile on England’s misery. But they’re the teams that are the most dangerous when there’s nothing to lose,” Warner was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.
The swashbuckling opener has been in red-hot form in the World Cup so far, having amassed a tally of 413 runs in six matches, as he sits in second place in the list of highest run-scorers in the tournament, behind only South Africa’s Quinton De Kock.
“They’ve got some very, very (high) quality players and we have to respect it. They bat to 11 and their bowling unit is very good,” he added.
Warner recently turned 37 and despite his woes in red-ball cricket during the Ashes earlier this year, the swashbuckling opener has been at his best in white-ball cricket.

With two centuries in the World Cup so far, Warner has pretty much one of the first names on the team sheet, as he looks to maximise the powerplays and continue to give explosive starts to the Aussies.
“Everyone keeps writing me off. I’m doing as well as I can, I’m just trying to go out there and start as well as I can up front in the first 10 (overs). If I get in, I try and make the most of it,” said Warner.
Travis Head only recently returned to full fitness and smashed a century on his return to the playing XI, while Mitchell Marsh had been playing very well up top alongside Warner before Head returned to take his place.
“It’s also awesome to have Heady and Mitch there as well, because it allows that pressure to keep being put back onto the opposition,” added Warner.
