Afghanistan star cricketer Rashid Khan has pledged his match fee from the ongoing ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 in India to help the cause of the victims of the earthquake in his homeland in its entirety.

According to reports, at least 2,445 people have been killed as a result of two earthquakes that hit Afghanistan on Saturday.

The all-rounder, who has created a revolution of sorts in his nation and is reportedly the nation’s highest-paid player, has said he also plans to launch a fundraising campaign to support those affected by the tragedy.

“I learned with great sadness about the tragic consequences of the earthquake that struck the western provinces (Herat, Farah, and Badghis) of Afghanistan,” he wrote on Instagram and X.

“I am donating all of my #CWC23 match fees to help the affected people. Soon, we will be launching a fundraising campaign to call upon those who can support the people in need.”

Afghanistan opened their World Cup campaign in India with a loss at the hands of Bangladesh at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday.

The Bangla Tigers won the toss and opted to bowl first as they wrapped up Afghanistan for a paltry 156 runs in 37.2 overs as Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan took three wickets each.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the top scorer for the Afghanistan unit as he made 47 runs off 62 deliveries, and Azmathullah Omarzai chipped in with a 22-run contribution.

Najmul Hossain Shanto made an unbeaten half-century with 59 runs, while Meidy also notched up a fifty with his 57-run knock.

Bangladesh next play England on the 10th of October, while Afghanistan are scheduled to take on India on the 11th of October in New Delhi.
