Waheeda Rehman has revealed how a director got ‘furious’ after she refused to wear a revealing outfit for a scene in the 1958 movie Solva Saal. In a recent interview, the veteran actress shared that Solva Saal had a scene in which her character’s clothes get wet and she is supposed to change. However, when she refused to wear the revealing clothes, the director got so angry that he treatened her and even packed up for the day. Solva Saal also starred Dev Anand and was dircted by Raj Khosla.
“I was given a costume that I did not want to wear. The director said if you are not comfortable then don’t wear it but when you come on the set, you should be happy. So when I came on the set, I wore what made me comfortable,” Waheeda recalled while talking to Radio Nasha.
“The director was furious. He said this your second or third movie, and it will be your last one because you have too many conditions,” the actress added. “The director was so angry that he packed up for the day,” she revealed.
Waheeda further shared that Dev Anand was also present on the sets when this happened. She mentioned that even though he did not say anything at first but after pack up, he spoke to the director and supported Waheeda. “Dev was sweet. He took my side. He told the director that what she is saying is absolutely right. Her character is a shy girl. Her name in the movie is Lajwanti. She shouldn’t be wearing revealing clothes in this scene. What she was saying was right and you got angry for no reason,” she said.
Waheeda argued the incident made her believe that Dev Anand will always be there to help whenever she will need. “I was very relived that Dev was in my corner. I was so happy that after that day, I felt like whenever there would be a problem, I would go to Dev and he would sort it out,” she concluded.
Waheeda Rehman and Dev Anand worked together in several films. Waheeda even made her acting debut opposite Dev in CID. They then featured in movies like Guide, Prem Pujari and Kala Bazar among others.
