TRP Scam Case: Mumbai Court Rejects Bail Plea of Former BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta
The special public prosecutor also drew the court's attention towards the purported WhatsApp chat between Dasgupta and Republic TV's Arnab Goswami.

A sessions court in Mumbai on Wednesday rejected the bail application of former CEO of BARC, Partho Dasgupta, an accused in the Television Ratings Point (TRP) scam case. Dasgupta is currently admitted at Mumbai’s Sir JJ Hospital. The Mumbai police had opposed his bail plea.

A prime accused in the TRP scam case, Dasgupta had filed an application seeking bail, saying that two chargesheets were already filed in the matter and that he had given all the information he had. He also said the other accused arrested in the case were granted bail and he should be treated the same.

But the Mumbai Police strongly opposed the bill plea. It said that Dasgupta is a powerful person and is likely to influence the witnesses and pressure them. Special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray also showed the chats between Arnab Goswami and Partho Dasgupta to claim that the latter had played a substantial role in TRP manipulation.

Partho had also sought bail on medical grounds. He is currently hospitalized at sir JJ Hospital, where he is in the ICU ward. He was admitted after his sugar levels spiked severely at Taloja prison.

A magistrate court had earlier rejected his bail plea, observing that he played a vital role in the scam. Opposing Dasgupta’s bail application in the sessions court, special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray submitted that although the charge-sheet in the case has been filed, there still are multiple things which need to be investigated.
