Bigg Boss 10 contestant actor Rahul Dev admits participating in the show was a difficult process but it eventually became a blessing in disguise. For those unaware, he became one of the highest participants at a time when his financial situation was a bit tight. Now, during a recent interaction with Hindustan Times, Rahul Dev candidly spoke about whether he ever regretted nodding yes to the controversial show despite having worked in over 80 films before. The Dishoom actor quickly denied it and went on to shed light on the part that became hard for him. According to him, actors train themselves to be in a film for whatever parts they’re offered. However, participating in a reality show was quite different from what he was accustomed to.
“Here you are participating like yourself. As a real person. I had no formal training in that, and I don’t know whether anybody can get formal training. It’s an unknown territory. It’s dark. It is a difficult process,” he said. However, he had little option to choose at the time. He had no work and had to take up what was offered to him. The process made him realize that a gap of over four years is quite long in the industry. He calls it a “rare blessing” that he is still in the business. In hindsight, the show helped him ease out his financial situation immediately and in a considerable manner. “That was a blessing and a learning experience of another kind,” he added.
When talking about his prior working experience, Rahul believes, “Even 80 films don’t save you here. Nobody looks at what you’ve done in the past because they measure you with what you’re doing at the moment. Who are the other people investing in you? It is a fair market, it’s a business.”
During the same interaction, Rahul also opened up about becoming an intrusive parent after losing his wife to cancer. Notably, the intrusiveness came from his upbringing in childhood after looking at his mother who was a working mother but never failed to cater to the needs of her three kids. Rahul became a similar parent. Being a single parent and working in the industry was quite fearful because it would take him away from home. “I’ve stayed in the best hotels possible all across the globe. Six passports, fully stamped. But, the downside is not being able to spend time with family),” he said.
Rahul Dev says an actor misses to see their child grow up in stages. Sometimes, a two-month absence means you’re meeting a whole new kid when you return home. “I would miss both of them quite a lot,” he admits.
Currently, he is in a relationship with model Mugdha Godse, who is 18 years his junior. While opening up about the pressure he faces to marry her, the actor said, “I don’t care about anyone. Even the families know. What I do care about is one person – what does she feel about it? That’s the main thing to consider.”
Rahul Dev didn’t win Bigg Boss 10, it was contestant Manveer Gurjar who lifted the victory trophy.
