Manoj Bajpayee recently stunned the audience with his latest film Joram. Joram was released earlier this month and saw Manoj play the role of a “voiceless” man. Recently, Manoj spoke about how he was able to play the character with such finesse and revealed that he drew some inspiration from his own family. Manoj gave fans an insight into his earlier family life and even spoke about the time when his mother wanted to die.
Speaking to Zoom, Manoj said, “I have seen this in my own family. My father didn’t have a voice. We are six children, and if you ask any of my siblings, they will say the same thing. My mother was the alpha female. Even in her last days, she was so independent. She hated to be dependent on anyone. She was asking my sister to give her poison so that she could die because she hated the fact that she was dependent on her children. So, I am from that family. I am brought up with that conditioning.” Manoj’s mother Geeta Devi passed away in 2022 due to age-related issues.
Manoj’s Joram was released nearly a week after Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal. He recently spoke to News18 Showsha about how that impacted Joram’s business. He said, “I’ve always spoken against the obsession with box office. I’ve always believed that it has ruined the culture of filmmaking in our country. Numbers being thrown at people’s faces isn’t the right thing to do.”
According to Bajpayee, what has caused more harm is that ‘even the audience has started speaking that language’ now. “In a conversation with them, they’ll suddenly quote the amount that a film has made. They feel that if a film has collected Rs 100 crore or above, it’s a very good film and that it qualifies for all kinds of honours in this country,” he said.
