Dakota Johnson, known for keeping her relationship private, recently shared a rare glimpse into their family life with Chris Martin and his children. In a candid interview with Bustle, the Madame Web star opened up about her role as a stepmom to Martin’s kids, Apple and Moses, from his previous marriage with Gwyneth Paltrow. Johnson, who casually referred to Moses as her stepson, expressed her openness to having children of her own. Raised by Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson in a blended family, who have children from their other relationships, Johnson says she values connections beyond blood ties. Although the Fifty Shades star didn’t delve into more private details, it seems the actress is comfortable living under one roof with Chris’ children.
Talking about being a stepmom, Dakota says, “I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.” She added, “I grew up in a family that was so big, and I just believe in the saying ‘Blood is thicker than water.’ The actual saying is ‘The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb,’ which means that the connections with people you choose are more solid than the connections to the people you’re actually born to.”
Dakota Johnson further reflects on her blended family and shares that she has four brothers and two sisters, but claims that not everyone is blood related but still they all consider each other family. Regardless of the challenges, whether there are issues related to rehab, strained relationships or divorces, the concept of family remains real. The actress highlights that, “Most of us are artists. Even in my adult life and my new family, most of us are artists. Even the kids, they’re extraordinarily talented people. So you just are dealing with complex people.”
For those not aware, Johnson’s family includes her parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. Meanwhile, Griffith has a son named Alexander with her ex-husband Steven Bauer and a daughter named Stella with her ex-husband Antonio Banderas. On the other hand, Johnson has a son named Jesse with his ex Patti D’Arbanville and three children, Grace, Jasper and Deacon, with his ex-wife Kelley Phleger.
Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have been in a romantic relationship since 2017, a year after Martin’s divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow was finalised. Paltrow and Martin were married for 11 years before announcing their separation in 2014. The Iron Man actress has publicly expressed her close bond with Dakota, calling her as her best friend. Following her divorce from Martin, Paltrow married Brad Falchuk in 2018 and she became a stepmother to his two children from a previous marriage.
