The Chennai Super Kings spent Rs 16.25 crore to rope in Ben Stokes in the side during the IPL mini auction. Cricket analyst Jamie Alter said that the franchise had spent a lot of money on Stokes but also added that the England all-rounder brings a lot to the table.
“CSK spent a lot more on Ben Stokes than it was required but look at the quality of player you have got. The Super Kings will have to address the leadership factor very, very soon. So from that perspective what Stokes offers to any team, they will be happy with that,” Jamie said.

He further said that CSK had let go off someone like a Faf du Plessis but realised the error and that’s why they went after a “solid product” like Stokes.
“They had let go off a Faf du Plessis which according to me was a crime. He was your most successful opener. They had bid for him in the auctions but pulled at around Rs 6.5 cr. Faf is the fittest 37-year-old around, score runs in every league. They have certainly realised that error and they have gone for a solid product in Ben Stokes. I think they will be very, very happy,” he added.
The IPL 2023 auction saw the all-rounders getting paid a huge amount of money. Sam Curran who went to Punjab Kings was bought by the franchise for Rs 18.5 while Cameron Green was picked by Mumbai Indians for Rs 17.5 cr.
