Vishal-starrer Rathnam released in theatres worldwide today, April 26. The film is written and directed by Hari. Apart from Vishal, the film also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar in the lead role. Following the success of Mark Antony, Vishal is ready to add another blockbuster to his filmography. This film marks the lead actor’s third union with the director Hari. They were previously seen together in the films Poojai ( 2014) and Thaamirabharani ( 2007). The movie has been released worldwide except in the Trichy-Thanjavur area. Following a complaint from a member of the Trichy-Thanjavur Theatre Association, the union of the movie distributors of the area has taken action against Vishal’s film and has banned its release in the Trichy-Thanjavur regions. This last-minute trouble in the release of the movie has irked Vishal. He has now released a statement against the association, promising to sue them in court for this act.
In the statement released by Vishal on X (formerly called Twitter), he said that Tamil cinema and its producers are in for a ‘rollercoaster’ ride this year. “Dearest executive members of #TTAREA theatre association you have created a very big impact by making sure that kangaroo courts still and will exist. Will definitely bring u down with justice even if it’s a bit late,” wrote Vishal.
Being the son of a producer, Vishal listed down the struggles producers face on Thursday evenings and said that most earn their living through movies rather than taking it as a ‘hobby’. “It’s a shame on you all,” said Vishal. He also pointed out the existence of numerous producer associations in the film industry which according to him have no significance.
And finally #kattapanchayath is up and going without any fear or remorse which means that Tamil cinema and Tamil cinema producers in particular are in for a rollercoaster ride this year. The makers left no stone unturned while promoting the movie too. Hari visited Pondicherry Shanmuga Theatre, where Ratnam was released today. He interacted with the fans and took selfies with them. Following this, he visited Pondicherry city areas including Nehru Road, Bharati Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, and Kuber Angadi. He met vegetable vendors, flower sellers and other local people to tell them about the release of Rathnam. The music of the film is composed by Devi Sri Prasad. Vishal plays the role of an angry young man who sets out to protect a young woman from gangsters who are eyeing her blood. The film is receiving a great response from the audience.
