Triptii Dimri Says She ‘Would Go Home And Cry During Laila Majnu’, Here's Why
Triptii Dimri revealed she did not initially consider acting as a potential career option.

Triptii Dimri gained significant attention in the Hindi film industry with notable performances in films like Bulbbul, Qala and Laila Majnu. However, her portrayal in the action thriller Animal, opposite Ranbir Kapoor, marked a pivotal moment in her career. She is not gearing up for her next movie Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video with Rajkummar Rao. Interestingly, Triptii did not initially aspire to be an actor; she had never considered it a viable career path and initially had little interest in pursuing acting.

During a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, the 30-year-old actress shared, “I just wanted to do something different. I was never academically good. I told my parents I was going to give it (modelling) a try.” She further mentioned that both her parents were quite scared of her decision to move to Mumbai as she was a shy, introverted who never stepped out of Delhi. They weren’t even happy with her decision to pursue modelling or enter showbiz. Despite their objections, Triptii made her choice and decided to go forward with modelling as she didn’t want to regret anything later.

After making up her mind, she began extensively auditioning for roles and was cast in Poster Boys (2017) opposite Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol and Shreyas Talpade. Sharing how she did not perform well in the film due to her lack of knowledge about acting, Triptii said, “I didn’t know the meaning of DOP (director of photography) or what a POV (point-of-view) shot was. I didn’t perform well in it because I didn’t know the ‘a’ of acting.”

Triptii Dimri gained widespread recognition for her role as Laila in the 2018 romance drama Laila Majnu, directed by Sajid Ali. Interestingly, she initially failed the audition for the film but was called back due to her striking facial features, which are reminiscent of Kashmiris. Ultimately, she secured the role, but she faced uncertainty about whether to continue with it.

“Even then, I didn’t know acting. I would sit in workshops with my director Sajid Ali and Avinash Tiwary, and they would have discussions on acting, backstory and characterisations. I would just sit there, blank-faced, not knowing anything. I would go home and cry thinking, ‘Am I doing the right thing?’ because I didn’t understand what they were saying or their language,” said Triptii. She continued, “But I was too scared. When you’re there and not getting anything, you feel like you are a fool, right? I would feel like a fool every single day.”

Despite not knowing much about the field initially, the 30-year-old actress, hailing from Garhwal in Uttarakhand, has come a long way. In 2024, Triptii was seen in Bad Newz and is gearing up for the release of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video alongside Rajkummar Rao. Next, she has Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Dhadak 2 in the pipeline.
