Peaky Blinders fans, brace yourselves— things are about to get even more exciting. Imagine the gritty streets of Birmingham filled with more iconic faces and now, there’s a new player in town. Oscar-nominated actor Tim Roth, yes, the same Tim Roth from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, is officially joining the cast of the Peaky Blinders movie. Netflix’s upcoming film is already shaping up to be nothing short of extraordinary and with Roth on board, the cast list is practically overflowing with talent. Roth will reportedly be seen sharing the screen with stars like Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan in what promises to be a thrilling follow-up to the cult-favourite BBC series.
While we don’t yet know the specifics of Roth’s role— or Ferguson’s and Keoghan’s, for that matter— one thing is certain: Murphy will be back as the one and only Tommy Shelby, the sharp-witted leader of the Shelby family.
Roth, known for his intense performances, will bring even more edge to a film that’s already set to make waves. He’ll also be making an appearance as Abomination in Captain America: Brave New World, so 2024 is looking busy for the actor.
The film’s screenplay is being penned by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who will also serve as a producer alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy and Guy Heeley. A powerhouse production team is backing the movie, with executive producers including Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren and David Mason. The project is being done in collaboration with BBC Film, as revealed by Deadline.
Not much has been revealed yet about the movie’s storyline, but that only adds to the intrigue. Steven Knight, in an interview with Esquire, gave a few details, teasing that the plot will revolve around two key stories. Knight has mentioned that he prefers to let the film dictate how the story unfolds. While the exact direction is still a mystery, fans can expect it to explore a new generation of characters while keeping the Shelby family firmly at the heart of things. Thomas Shelby, naturally, will remain a central figure.
Here’s what Knight had to say about the film’s development, “The film, I know exactly what it’s about. And I know what two stories it’s going to tell. How the story will unfold, I don’t know. What will happen after that, I want that to depend on the film. For all we know somebody is going to pop out – I think I know who it’s going to be.”
“In series six we’re bringing in the new generation, and they are going to be part of what happens in the film. I think it’s finding those actors that you just watch, and you think, there you go. There’s the future,” he added.
