Sony Entertainment Television brought a very interesting concept of telling the story of one of the most underrated warrior of Mahabharata, Karna. People who are into mythology reading, knows how important and true the character was.
The first episode started with Kunti sending newborn Karna away in a basket (made of plastic, royal enough?) and crying her eyes out. Then she asks for forgiveness from the child's father, who sired him, Surya. The Sun god is angry and starts sending heat waves and fire balls (literally) on earth. Fire and heat starts destroying the earth, then a young man, selected by Kunti's personal courtesan, jumps in the river and save the child in the basket. The man is Adhirath, a charioteer, and the courtesan requests him to keep the royal child and never tell his secret. He takes an oath but says that the child is special and can't be hidden, to that the courtesan replies, "Proving and creating his worth will be the destiny of this child". Back home Adiratha's wife Radha, who is pregnant is about to give birth. Adiratha reaches before and lie to 'Daai ma' that Radha gave birth to one child (Karna), while the other is still in the womb. Another child is born and everybody believes that twins are born.
The show brings a lot of disappointment atleast with the first episode. Below average acting, twisted facts and poor vfx ruin the story-telling. Indian mythology shows created a good niche after last year's 'Mahabharata' but 'Karna' fails to do so. Let's hope the creators dig out interesting authentic facts to keep the show going, and good actors for the role of Karna.
PS: In the next episode you could see Karna snowboarding on a slope.
