Sonakshi Sinha recently married her long-time boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal on June 23. Before marriage, the actress was in the limelight and had garnered a lot of attention for playing the role of Fareedan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The audience liked her a lot in the role of the series and appreciated her performance.
The actress believes that before the role of Fareedan in the web series Hiramandi, no one took her seriously. In a recent interview, Sonakshi said, ‘I am very happy that someone imagined me. Sanjay Sir saw me in that kind of role. I am grateful to him. Also, I have been saying for a long time that I am interested in playing negative or villainous characters. Until he cast me for Fareedan, no one took me seriously. So I am grateful to him. As an actress, it is great to take on such challenges and do something different. How long will you play the role of a common girl, girlfriend, or loving wife? It was very fun for me to play that kind of role.’
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was set in pre-independent India against the backdrop of the freedom movement and told the story of the courtesans, the Nawabs and the British and the tussle for power amongst them. It premiered on Netflix on May 1.
The show also starred Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal Mehta and Taha Shah Badussha in pivotal roles.
Sonakshi was last seen in the horror-comedy film Kakuda, streaming on ZEE5, which also starred Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem in pivotal roles. It was directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, who previously worked on Munjya. The film was produced by Ronnie Screwvala, under RSVP Movies and written by Chirag Garg and Avinash Dwivedi.
Talking about her personal life, Sonakshi Sinha got married to her long-time beau, Zaheer Iqbal, in an intimate ceremony at her Bandra residence. The newlyweds then had a lavish celebration at Bastian Restaurant, attended by Salman Khan, Rekha, Honey Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Huma Qureshi, among others.
