Santhanam is a prominent Tamil actor. He has acted in many hit films and is currently looking forward to his next movie, Vadakkupatti Ramasamy. Written and directed by Karthik Yogi, this film will be released at the cinema halls on February 2. Vadakkupatti Ramasamy’s trailer has courted controversy over the lead character’s remarks on the non-existence of God. This snowballed into a major issue and led to protests before the release of the film. Some of the viewers also took offence over a dialogue criticising the Dravidian ideologue ‘Erode Venkatappa Ramasamy’. Santhanam had to step in to issue a clarification regarding this during the film’s audio launch. Santhanam said that there is nothing controversial in his film and its only purpose is to entertain fans with humorous content.
Santhanam also revealed that he will again act in a film directed by Karthik Yogi. He heard some people addressing Karthik Yogi as Yogi and requested them to take the director’s full name. Santhanam said that there is already a controversy and he does not wish another one to take place.
Vadakkupatti Ramasamy’s trailer has been making waves on social media. It has garnered 10 million views. One of the users criticised Santhanam for trying things other than comedy. He wrote that Santhanam’s main forte is comedy and he should focus on it.
People Media Factory has produced Vadakkupatti Ramasamy. Actors like Megha Akash, MS Bhaskar, John Vijay and Nizhalgal Ravi have acted in this film.
Santhanam has primarily shined in his career as a comedian, but he is no longer interested in doing comedy-based roles. He interacted with The Times of India regarding it. When asked whether he misses being a comedian, Santhanam said, “Not really, and that’s mainly because the roles that I’ve chosen as a hero are also comic ones. I have not tried to play an action hero or a mass hero. I am doing these happy-go-lucky types who are fun to be around. At the same time, I am also dancing and fighting to ensure that there are other flavours to this comic persona."
