Mita Vashisht Reveals Aamir Khan Disliked Her Touching His Hair: 'He Didn't Like It'
Mita Vashisht recalled the time when Aamir Khan didn't like her touching his hair.

Mita Vashisht, renowned for her diverse roles in Indian cinema, recently shared an intriguing anecdote from her career during an interview with The Lallantop. Recalling her experience while filming ‘Ghulam,’ she revealed how an improvisation led to an unexpected reaction from Aamir Khan.

Reflecting on the incident, Mita recounted, “During a scene, I reached out and ruffled Aamir’s hair. He didn’t like it. Commercial film actors often consider themselves superior to those in art cinema, a perception that still persists. Had I been a commercial movie star, perhaps he wouldn’t have felt bad. Actors from art films are sometimes viewed with a certain condescension by mainstream stars. While they may acknowledge our talent, they still see themselves as the real stars.”

Mita also discussed the underlying caste and class dynamics within Bollywood, noting that these social structures contribute to discrimination in the industry. She highlighted that even on OTT platforms, less experienced actors might be preferred over her despite her 37 years of experience.

Elaborating on Aamir’s reaction, Mita felt he seemed to think, ‘Hath kaise laga dia mujhe (How did she touch me?)’. However, she appreciated director Mahesh Bhatt’s support, who defended her gesture, calling it ‘beautiful.’

She added, “That film was delayed for one and a half years because Aamir’s popularity was low at that time. After the film was revived, Pooja Bhatt was replaced by Rani Mukerji. Mahesh Bhatt had left the project, and Vikram Bhatt took over as the director. We had to reshoot a scene because of this change. Vikram said, ‘Now we are going to do your and Aamir’s love scene where you ruffle his hair, it is such a cute scene.’ As we were reshooting the same scene, I did not ruffle his hair as I had done before. When the scene was over, Aamir said, ‘You didn’t do what you did last time.’ I replied, ‘Last time you didn’t like it.’ He said, ‘Please do it.’ I agreed and said, ‘Yes, now I’ll do it.’ (Wo bhi sahi thi kyuki unka alag tradition hai) He was right in his own way as he has his own tradition. It is not his fault as he did.”
