Madonna's Tribute To Late Brother Christopher Ciccone: ‘We Danced Through The Madness Of Our Childhood’
Madonna penned an emotional post just days after her younger brother, Christopher Ciccone, passed away due to cancer.

American singer Madonna lost her younger brother, Christopher Ciccone, on October 4. He was 63. Christopher was an accomplished artist, designer, choreographer, and dancer. He succumbed to cancer, as confirmed by his representative, Brad Taylor. In the wake of his unexpected passing, Madonna took to social media to share a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on cherished memories they shared.

The 66-year-old singer shared a series of pictures with her brother Christopher, saying, “My brother Christopher is gone. He was the closest human to me for so long.” She continued, “It’s hard to explain our bond. But it grew out of an understanding that we were different and society was going to give us a hard time for not following the status quo. We took each other‘s hands, and we danced through the madness of our childhood.”

Sharing that dance was the “superglue” that stuck them together, Madonna added, “Discovering Dance in our small Midwestern town saved me, and then my brother came along, and it saved him, too.” She revealed that her ballet teacher, who was also named Christopher, gave a safe space for her brother to open up about his sexuality. “My ballet Teacher, also named Christopher- created a safe space for my brother to be Gay, a word that was not spoken or even whispered where we lived. When I finally got the courage to go to New York to become a Dancer. My brother followed. And again we took each other’s hands, and we danced through the madness of New York City!”

The Material Girl singer shared that she and her brother would devour “Art and Music And Film like hungry animals,” and the brother-sister duo was “in the epicentre of all of these things exploding.” Madonna mentioned, “We danced through the madness of the AIDS epidemic. We went to funerals, and we cried, and we went dancing. We danced together on stage in the beginning of my career, and eventually, he became the Creative Director of many tours. When it came to good taste, my brother was the Pope, and you had to kiss the ring to get his blessing. We defied the Roman Catholic Church, The Police, the Moral Majority and all Authority figures that got in the way of Artistic freedom!”

Further, in her long note, Madonna described Christopher as “a painter, a poet and a visionary,” highlighting his impeccable taste and sharp tongue, which he sometimes used against her. Despite that, she would always forgive him. “We soared the highest heights together and floundered in the lowest lows. Somehow, we always found each other again, and We held hands, and we kept dancing.”

Madonna revealed that she wasn’t on talking terms with her brother for a few years after Christopher released his controversial memoir Life with My Sister Madonna in 2008, but they reconnected once he got sick. Sharing that Christopher was suffering for a long time, the Girl Gone Wild singer ended her note with, “I’m glad he’s not suffering anymore. There will never be anyone like him. I know he’s dancing somewhere.”

Christopher passed away just days after their stepmother, Joan Clare Ciccone, died due to cancer.
