'Katti Batti': Are we gearing up for an Indian version of '500 Days of Summer'?
'Katti Batti': Are we gearing up for an Indian version of '500 Days of Summer'?
Here are six ‘co-incidentally’ similar scenes in trailers of ‘500 Days oO Summer’ and our desi ‘Katti-Batti’.

UTV has just released the trailer of its upcoming romantic comedy ‘Katti Batti’. The film stars Kangana Ranaut as Payal , a free spirited, commitment phobic girl and Imran Khan as Madhav, a lovable, simple and middle class boy. The film promises the viewers that it is not your usual love story, Well that reminds us of another movie that gave us the same promise, Fox Star Studio’s 2009 released romantic-comedy ‘500 Days of Summer’, starring Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The film was termed as an offbeat love story by its maker similar to what ‘Katti-Batti’ is being called. So is it just a coincidence that the marketing strategy of both the films are the same or is it that the story, characters and the entire crux of the film taken from the 2009 hit film? Let’s find out.

Here are six ‘co-incidentally’ similar scenes in trailers of ‘500 Days of Summer’ and ‘Katti-Batti’:

1) In both the films, there is an understanding, supportive little listener, lending her ear and advising big brother( our hero) to deal with an heart break that has shattered his life.

2) The ‘I am drowning in my sorrows and alcohol’ look of the heart broken lead is uncannily similar. While Jordon pulled off the drunken sweet heart quite nicely, it would be exciting to see how our ‘desi lover-boy’ Imran Khan does it.

3) The ‘nothing serious please’ talk. Remember the scene where Summer and Tom are just about to kick-start a happening chapter in their lives and Summer confesses that she is not ready for anything serious in the relationship? Well, Nikhil Advani has re-created the scene in ‘Katti-Batti’ as well.

4) Talking about the characters, the look of Madhav is very similar to that of Tom. A lovable love struck guy who is an introvert, falls in love with a girl at first sight and takes forever to get over her. Of course there would be little differences. When an Indian hero has completely succumbed himself to his vulnerabilities? It has always been played by the ladies in Bollywood

5) Then there is our classic carefree Payal. A commitment-phobic, wild and upfront urban girl, just like Summer- who leaves one fine day breaking the heart of her lover. She is unconventional, carefree and hence even more desirable.

6) And last but not the least the ‘This is not a love story’ tag line. While ‘500 Days of Summer’ stuck to this line and brought to us the list of how not to get over a break-up, we hope ‘Katti Batti’ too stays true to its promise.

Though somewhere down the line we are expecting some ‘Bollywood-ness’ to enter the ‘off-beat’ story, the makers of ‘Katti Batti’ have a different story to tell. We’ll have to wait till September to find out the real similarities between the two films. Whether ‘Katti Batti’ joins the league of Ghajini (Momento) and Kyunki Main Jhoot Nahi Bolta (Liar Liar) or proves us wrong by being a completely different story is something time will tell.
