'I Don't Feel Shy At All': Marathi Actress Smita Tambe On Doing Bold Scenes
Marathi actor Smita Tambe shared her bold opinion on doing bold scenes in movies. She was criticised for her bold scenes in Candle March.

Actors in different film industries get slammed for their intimate or bold scenes on screen. They get trolled on social media and in public as well. However, to express the emotions and intensity of certain characters and scenes, bold scenes seem necessary. Many fans and critics have rejected these scenes present in movies. On the other hand, actors have also shared their opinions, reasoned with the criticism, and pushed through the criticism.

Recently, Marathi actor Smita Tambe faced severe criticism from her fans and critiques that forced her to defend herself. After facing criticism for doing bold scenes in her movies, she has made a bold statement. Her statement had mixed reactions. Some of her fans have shown huge support, while some have criticised her even more.

Smita, in her movie Candle March, released on December 5, 2014, showed tremendous acting skills. In the Indian Marathi language film directed by Sachin Deo, she did some bold scenes as she portrayed the character of a sexually harassed woman. The character she portrayed was fighting against injustice and the system. The movie was inspired by real-life sex scandals in India. She also explained, “I did some intimate scenes with Nilesh Diwekar in the movie Candle March. Everyone on the set was tense then, but I didn’t feel anything at all”.

In an interview given to It’s Madja, Smita Tambe said, “I am sure that I will never feel uncomfortable doing kissing scenes. I had given intimate scenes with Nilesh Divekar in the movie Candle March. At that time, everyone on the set felt awkward, but I didn’t feel awkward at all. Then I told this to Nilesh too. I don’t feel shy doing such scenes because it is part of the practice of the character.”

Smita Tambe, known for her great acting skills in movies and series like Sacred Games, Saavat, Joram, and Jawan also expressed her view on acting and cinema, on how an actor portrays certain ideas or emotions. She added, “Just as the vessel has a particular way of lifting a vessel, a way of drinking water, a way of getting up and sitting down, this is also easily visible. If there are intimate scenes according to the story of that film, then it will never feel strange or vulgar.”
