Hugh Jackman Reveals REAL Reason He Decided To Retire From His Wolverine Life: 'It Was Hurting...'
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release this July. The film marks Hugh Jackman's return as Logan.

Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman opened up about leaving the X-Men franchise. For the unversed, in 2017, Hugh Jackman hung his Wolverine craws after the release of Logan. Fans wept when they watched Wolverine die in Logan. Although Hugh had mentioned at the time that he believe that the time’s up on his run as the X-Men character, in a new interview with Ryan Reynolds, Hugh revealed the real reason he wanted to finish his run as Wolverine because his body was hurting when he played the character.

“I had got to the point probably 10 years ago I was like, I’m not enjoying it. It was hurting. It was tough. But I’ve had a break, and I’ve been doing a lot of dance. I’ve been doing stage shows. And so when I came back to it, it was really fun,” Jackman told Reynolds.

At the time of Logan, Jackman had said that Wolverine would return from the dead if he was going to cross paths with Avengers. After Marvel Studios and Disney took over Fox, fans were hopeful that Wolverine would return. However, Jackman shot down the possibility.

So, how did Ryan Reynolds and Marvel Studios resurrect Logan for Deadpool & Wolverine? Speaking with Fandango, Jackman revealed Reynolds had pitched him the idea of reuniting for a Deadpool meets Wolverine film. “I was on my way, I was just driving, and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, came this knowing deep in my gut that I wanted to do this film with Ryan. For Deapdool and Wolverine to come back together. I swear to you, When I said I was done, I really thought I was done,” he said.

“But in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like, ‘Those two characters together.’ I knew it, I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew,” he recalled, adding that as soon as he reached home, he called Reynolds and gave his seal of approval. “I rang Ryan. And I just said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie,’” he said.

Deadpool & Wolverine will release on July 26.
