Anupam Kher is currently on a promotional spree for his upcoming film, The Signature, which also stars Mahima Chaudhry, Annu Kapoor, and Neena Kulkarni. During one of his interviews, the veteran actor highlighted how some scenes from his forthcoming film are similar to real-life incidents because of his wife, Kirron Kher’s battle against cancer.
“During the shoot of this film, there were certain scenes that I enacted which I identified with at a personal level,” said Anupam while speaking with India Today Digital. He added, “My wife, Kirron, was unwell and was undergoing cancer treatment, so bringing out those emotions on celluloid came from that experience. I feel it’s the culmination of my personal life situations that helped me play this part efficiently.”
Kirron Kher was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. Recalling her treatment in Mumbai, the actor mentioned, “Kirron too got herself treated in Mumbai itself. We have some amazing doctors in our country and just the way Mahima advised Hina Khan to get treated in our own country, it is something that I strongly advocate for, too.”
Anupam shared that the reason behind his advocacy for getting treated in India is a conversation he had with the late actor Rishi Kapoor. He recalled, “It’s also because I remember meeting with Rishi Kapoor when he was unwell. For one year, Chintu Ji was in America, and when we met, he expressed how difficult it was for him to get treated away from his house and the rest of the family members. Industrialist Anil Ambani also sent his aircraft to bring Kirron back and get her treated here in India. It’s something that I highly appreciate because it’s so compassionate.”
Previously, at the News18 SheShakti 2024 event, acclaimed actress and politician Kirron Kher opened up about her battle against cancer. She reflected on how the illness had initially impacted her. “I wasn’t acting. I was only doing India’s Got Talent and had moved to Chandigarh, my hometown. I kept my commitment to the show but avoided everything else, including films,” she said.
The veteran actress further shared that everyone, at some point in their lives, fears that something might happen to them. However, when such times come, no one has a choice but to accept.
Kirron also mentioned that the treatment for cancer is more challenging than the illness itself. She said, “The first six to eight months were very tough, but you leave it in the hands of the Lord. I’ve always believed, even when fighting elections, that ‘This is not my fight; the Lord fights for me.’”
Meanwhile, Anupam Kher’s film The Signature will be released on Zee5 on October 4.
