From IIT To Panchayat, How TVF's Jitendra Kumar Became The OTT Sensation

In the era of OTT platforms, many artists are carving a niche for themselves in Indian cinema. Directors, writers, actors, and musicians are seizing opportunities in the flourishing web series landscape, and one standout talent in this realm is Jitendra Kumar, affectionately known as Jeetu Bhaiya.

Jitendra Kumar has captured the hearts of the masses with his compelling performances in various web series and films. Renowned for his iconic comic timing and adept emotional portrayals, he has become a household name. Born in Khairthal, Rajasthan, Jitendra pursued civil engineering at IIT Kharagpur before venturing into acting. His journey began within the college’s drama society, where he engaged in street plays and stage performances.

During his college years, Jitendra crossed paths with Biswapati Sarkar, a senior who would later become the executive creative director and writer of ‘The Viral Fever’ (TVF). In 2012, Sarkar invited Jitendra to join TVF, marking the inception of his career. Jitendra contributed to numerous sketch videos for TVF, some of which gained substantial popularity on YouTube, amassing over 30 lakh views.

Jitendra Kumar’s breakthrough came with his significant role in TVF’s web series, Pitchers. Subsequently, his portrayal as an IIT coaching teacher in the acclaimed web series Kota Factory further solidified his standing. However, it was the web series Panchayat that transformed his career. The show’s first season, released in 2020, resonated widely, with Jitendra’s character, Abhishek Tripathi, achieving household recognition and evoking nostalgia among viewers.

His success extended to the big screen, with Jitendra featuring in the film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan alongside Ayushmann Khurrana. Currently, fans eagerly anticipate the release of the third season of Panchayat – which many thought was scheduled for January 15 – on Amazon Prime, further cementing Jitendra Kumar’s status as a prominent and versatile talent in the OTT space.
