Divya Khossla called out Alia Bhatt yet again with regard to Jigra. The Savi actress had claimed that Alia and Karan Johar engaged in ‘fake ticket bookings’ to hype up the box office collection of Jigra. She also shared a photo of an empty theatre hall that was playing Jigra to back her claims. In a new interview, Bhushan Kumar’s wife said that Alia doesn’t need to resort to such tactics because she is already popular and well-established.
“Alia doesn’t need to resort to such tactics; she’s already well-established. But true heroism is in speaking against wrongdoing. Let the audience decide based on merit, not money and power,” Divya told Hindustan Times.
She also addressed the claims of manipulating box office collections. “After Covid, smaller production houses have shut down, and only those with money survive. I saw an empty theatre, yet Jigra’s opening figures were inflated. That needs serious correction.” She claims that false numbers are put out for certain films. “We are creative people, we are not in a share market, and by giving fake box office numbers, certain media persons also highlight bad films. When good films work, no one talks about that. These people decide which film is will be declared a hit- as tickets are bought and fake collections are announced. And that’s why only those people will be able to survive here, who have money. New talent, will never be able to enter,” she said.
For the unversed, Divya had claimed that the team of Jigra posed fake opening day box office collection. She shared a picture of an empty Citi Mall theatre in Mumbai and said, “Went to Citi Mall PVR for Jigra show. Theatre was totally empty … all theaters going empty every where. #Aliabhatt me sach mein Bahut #Jigra hai.. khud hi tickets karide aur fake collections announce kar diye. Wonder why paid media is silent. #weshdnotfooltheaudience #truthoverlies #HappyDussehra Х (sic).”
Alia Bhatt starrer released on October 11. The film collected Rs 4.55 crore on its opening day. The film, directed by Vasan Bala, collected Rs 16.75 crore in its opening weekend.
